At We Are Chain Ltd we are always looking for ways to optimise our websites to improve the shopping experience for ours and your customers. This is why this week, we devoted some time to exploring Shop Pay and the Shop Channel. Before you get confused, we are talking about Shop Pay and not Shopify Payments. Shopify Payments is how you collect money from customers in the same way as you do with Paypal and Amazon Pay.
What is Shop Pay?

Shop Pay is an accelerated checkout that lets customers save their email address, credit card, and shipping and billing information so that they can complete their transaction faster the next time they are directed to the Shopify checkout. This can save your customers time when they check out, especially if they’ve already opted in to Shop Pay on any Shopify store. If your store offers a local pickup or delivery option, then customers can choose the option during checkout with Shop Pay. Shop Pay lets customers track their purchases with a live map and they can then see other products from that store on the Shop app.
Why you should enable it on your Shopify store?
We know all about optimising your website for speed to give customers a better user experience and of course improving your ranking on Google. With apps like Shop Pay we can now speed up the check-out process for users which is just about the most important part of the whole process. Getting people to convert a basket into a purchase is the only way to make money.
In the same way that website speed is key to a good experience, a fast checkout will improve your checkout conversion rate. It is aimed at creating a frictionless experience for the shopper. Auto Fill from Google and other useful tools that come with your laptop or phone are useful, but quite often they complicate things, especially if you have multiple email addresses and delivery addresses. With Shop Pay, once you have confirmed your identity the whole thing is a matter of a couple of clicks from completing the sale. When you add your email to the checkout it recognises you and sends a text message to your phone. THis confirms your identity and from here you can just check the delivery details are correct and checkout without filling in any time-consuming forms.
“On average, Shop Pay has an average of 9% lift in conversion for all checkouts, and a 18% higher conversion rate for returning customers”
Not having to fill in extra fields in forms is a sure fire way to make your customers happier. Shop pay does all the heavy lifting for you. With over 1,000,000 stores using Shopify it is very likely that your customers have already got an account, meaning they can check out much faster on your store. If you want to know who uses Shopify then go to the checkout and if you are presented with Shop Pay as an option you know they use Shopify.
What is the Shop App?

The shop app is a free app you can download to your phone to help you keep track of your orders if you are a customer and speed up your checkout. If you are a store owner it is even better. You can add it to the back end of your Shopify store and start to use everything it has to offer.
The Shop App lets you brand your store the way you want it to look. You can ensure your customers have a smooth checkout experience and let them track their orders. You can also display products you want them to know about the inside of the app. As an added bonus, Shop App is doing their bit for the planet and are planting trees every time someone purchases.
As you can see from the above image, over 20% of our customers have Shop App installed on their devices which means 20% of them are having a great time and have access to our Shop App store. Any new products we add to our store will show up in the app next time they log in.
In Conclusion:
The benefits of having the Shopify App and enabling Shop Pay on your Shopify website are:
- Speed up the checkout process
- Increase repeat Purchases
- Increase conversions
- Build Trust with your customers
- Reduce time spent on customer service tracking parcels
- Push new products on your customers
