How to enhance Shopify Collections with Metafields

How to use metafields to improve your collection pages in Shopify
In this episode of our Shopify Tips and Tricks guides, Jim shows you how you can use Metafields in Shopify to enhance your product collections. We were recently asked by a client to make their collection pages more interesting as opposed to making brand new brand pages. The advent of Metafields in Shopify has been an incredible success and enabled store owners to create much more dynamic content as opposed to creating a new collection or product page for each unique collection.
With Metafields you can set up dynamic fields that can be automatically populated directly from within the product or collection manager. To do this we have created a video demonstrating the process when adding a new title and text area to the bottom of a collection. Why do this? Sometimes you need to outdo your competitors and this is an easy win. By adding more info below your collection you will give your customers a better user experience, plus you can put in more information to help Google find your collections.
It is an SEO win and a user experience win in our opinion. You may want to go even further and add things like FAQs and galleries to the bottom of your collections. This way you don't annoy the user by adding more content above the actual products themselves.

How to add Metafields in Shopify
You can start adding metafields by following these steps:
1. Select the area you want to add them. In this case it is below a default collection.
2. Add a new block - Rich Text and Image
3. Select the dynamic icon on the top right of each box and click it.
4. Select add new metafield.
5. This takes you to the dynamic content section of Shopify.
6. Add your first metafield and call it something that makes sense.
7. Choose the type of content, is it a title or multi line of text.
8. Save and add a new one for the Text area.
9. Save and return to your default collection in the them customizer.
10. Add the new block at the bottom of the collection.
11. Select dynamic content button and choose the correct new meta field.
Voila, all done and your collections ill now have a new box to complete to fill this in.
There is more to be done but we will leave that to a new video. Checking that the new title is an H2 and not an H1 is important. Good luck and if you need any help get in touch with us here at We are Chain.
