Thinking of moving to Shopify? Don't wait until September.

We hear it a lot: "We'll sort the migration after the summer." And we understand — it feels like a big project to take on when you're already flat out running your business.

But here's what six years of Shopify migrations have taught us: the brands that sail through Black Friday are the ones who made their move in spring, not the ones who scrambled in autumn.

    Why timing actually matters

Q3 (summer sales, back-to-school) and Q4 (Black Friday, Christmas) can account for well over half of annual ecommerce revenue for many brands. Your platform — and your SEO — needs to be in great shape well before those trading windows open.

A Shopify migration done properly typically takes 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of your store. Add the time Google needs to fully re-crawl your new site (usually 4 to 8 weeks), and the maths becomes pretty clear: if you start now, you're set up and confident before the summer rush. Leave it until July, and you're taking a real risk with your peak trading period.

We migrated HiHo Silver from PrestaShop to Shopify ahead of their peak Christmas trading period — custom engraving, show stock sync, Klaviyo and all. Getting the timing right made all the difference.

What about my SEO — won't a migration hurt it?

This is the question we get asked more than any other, and it's a fair one. A migration handled carelessly can dent your rankings at exactly the worst moment. Done properly, though, it doesn't just protect your SEO — it can meaningfully improve it.

We've been there ourselves. We know what's at stake. So SEO isn't an afterthought in our process — it's the backbone of it. Before we touch anything on your current site, we audit it fully. We map every URL, set up every redirect, carry across your metadata, and monitor Search Console closely after launch. We don't sign off until your Shopify store is ranking as well as — or better than — the one it replaced.

"We recently migrated our website to Shopify with We Are Chain, and can't rate them highly enough. Every step of the way they were SO helpful, responding really quickly to any questions or issues." — Hannah Jenkins, Hannah Turner

Signs your current platform might be holding you back

    • Your site slows down or wobbles under peak traffic
    • Simple changes still need a developer — and a developer invoice
    • Your checkout conversion rate isn't where it should be
    • You're paying for multiple tools to patch together what Shopify does natively
    • Your team spends more time fighting the platform than growing the business

We've worked with brands migrating from WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, ASP.NET, EKM, Squarespace and more. Whatever you're on, we've almost certainly done it before.

What working with us actually looks like

We're not a faceless agency. We Are Chain was founded by Rupert, who ran his own £750k ecommerce store — so when we say we've been in your shoes, we mean it. Every migration we handle gets personal attention, clear timelines, and zero jargon.

We handle everything from the initial audit through to data migration, theme build, SEO transition, app setup and post-launch support. And if we don't think a migration is right for your business right now, we'll tell you that too.

"We are Chain stepped in to help us with the Shopify platform when we transitioned from an older website. A huge support to our B2B customer service team." — Jane Aylwin, Henri Lloyd
